As bushfire season continues in Australia, Rise Above would like to caution you not to fly near fire emergencies or other disaster areas without coordinating with local authorities. Doing so, even at low altitudes, may distract emergency responders or could pose a hazard to manned aircraft involved in the operation.

Geoscience Australia maintains an interactive map of current fire disaster area. Click here for the current Sentinel Hotspot Map.

It is also a good practice to check on aircraft flight restrictions issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) using a free airspace map service such as Skyvector.com.

DJI drones such as the Phantom 3 and Inspire 1 are being used to help communities and first responders in disasters and emergencies. DJI technology helped protect fire fighters at a dangerous quarry fire in Connecticut, was used to help rescue victims during flooding in Texas, helped save two boys stranded in rapid waters in Maine, and assisted fire fighters in battling a house fire in Illinois just two weeks ago. Importantly, all of those efforts demonstrating the life-saving potential of drone technology were coordinated with the local authorities. If you'd like to learn how drone technology can assist in fire rescue, search and rescue, lifeguard service, or other emergency services, contact Rise Above Custom Drone Solutions today.

Thank you and fly safe,
Rise Above Australia
