DJI recently released the DJI Mini 2 SE, its second-generation mini SE drone on the market. With DJI having a number of drones targeted under 250 grams, what exactly is different, and which one is right for you?

Mini 2 SE vs Mini 2

Taking a look at the spec sheet for both drones, there are a number of key differences to keep an eye out for when deciding which is right for you.

The Mini 2 SE comes in at 246 grams, while the Mini 2 is marketed as under 249 grams. While the cameras are identical, the Mini 2 SE doesn't come with as many smart modes, drops 4K video support, and limits the video bitrate to 40 Mbps, instead of 100 Mbps.

Apart from the above-mentioned changes, everything else appears to be the same. This also means the propellers, batteries, and other accessories designed for the Mini 2 will likely work with no issues on the Mini 2 SE (to be confirmed).

The DJI Mini 2 SE is a great addition to the company's mini drone family, allowing more people to get into flying at a lower price. It is a fairly decent upgrade over the original DJI Mini SE and stacks up well with the rest of the line up. Mini 2 SE is the perfect first drone for anyone.

Taking a look at the original Mini SE, DJI has made a number of improvements to the Mini 2 SE. The Mini 2 SE comes in at 246 grams, while the Mini SE is marketed as under 249 grams. The Mini 2 SE has improved ascent and descent speeds being 5 m/s and 3.5m/s respectively, along with a max horizontal speed of 16m/s instead of 13m/s.

The Mini 2 SE has a max take-off altitude of 4000m and a max flight time of 31 minutes. DJI has added support for the Galileo GNSS system along with the ability to capture photos in RAW, something that was missing on the original.

Mini 2 SE comes with digital zoom, up to 4x and uses DJI's OcuSync 2 transmission technology allowing it to fly up to 10km, a huge improvement over the Mini SE's enhanced Wi-Fi that maxes out at 4km.

The Mini 2 SE also comes with DJI's improved DJI RC-N1 controller rather than the older black Mavic controller.

Pricing

  • DJI Mini 2 SE - AUD$599
  • DJI Mini 2 - AUD$749
  • DJI Mini SE - AUD$459
