Drone Flight Safety Tips For Winter

Author: DJI   Date Posted:13 November 2015

With winter just around the corner (for the Northern Hemisphere, at least:), we’d like to remind you to keep the following safety tips in mind when flying your aircraft in cold weather.

I. Update your aircraft to the latest firmware before flying.

II. Please ensure the battery is fully charged before flying the Inspire 1 Series.

III. Cold weather, especially temperatures below freezing, can severely impact flight performance and safety. Before flying, make sure the battery is fully charged and warmed up according to the instructions in the user manual. We also suggest letting the aircraft hover for 30 to 60 seconds before flying.

IV. Thinner air at higher altitudes will require your aircraft’s propulsion system to generate more rotation speed. Make sure your battery is fully charged, especially when flying in areas located over 3 kilometers above sea level, and gently apply pressure to the control sticks. Avoid pulling all the way down on the control sticks for extended periods.

V. Flying with heavy payloads is not recommended. But if you do fly with a heavy payload, be sure to fly with a fully charged battery and pull gently on the control sticks. Avoid pulling all the way down on the control sticks for extended periods.

VI. After using the Inspire 1 battery 10 to 15 times, charge and discharge the battery according to the instructions in the DJI GO app. Remember to charge the battery to 50% after you fully discharge it. For the Phantom series, there’s no need to charge and discharge the battery.
